Meet the Photographer

hi, i'm trix!

I’m a classically trained, lifelong photographer, which is a slightly fancy way of saying I learned on film back in 2008 and never really stopped taking photos.

My instinct has always been to reach for the camera whenever I see something beautiful, interesting, funny, or worth remembering. These days that usually means snapping a photo on whatever camera is closest, but the impulse is the same.

For me, photography is a passion project, not just a business. I started this because people kept asking me to photograph their events, weddings, and milestones, and eventually I figured: maybe this is my sign to take it more seriously. Setting up shop gives me a reason to invest in this properly and open it up to people beyond my own network.

This is not my full-time gig, and I like it that way. I only take on a handful of weddings, elopements, and celebrations each year so I can give each story the care and attention it deserves. I’m especially drawn to people who value intention, authenticity, and real connection over trends or spectacle.

My husband and I recently had an intimate wedding ourselves, and it gave me an even deeper appreciation for the small, meaningful moments that make a day feel like yours. I know how much thought goes into creating something personal, and how important it is to have those memories captured in a way that feels honest, thoughtful, and true to the day.

Outside of photography, I work in marketing and communications, which keeps my curiosity and creativity alive in a different way. When I’m not working, I’m usually wandering downtown, finding little hidden corners of the city, practicing yoga, reading, travelling, or noticing some small beautiful thing I’ll probably want to photograph later.

My photography page is @trixdeseophotography, but if you want to see what I’m eating, where I’m going, and what I’m up to, you can also follow me at @trixdeseo.

fun facts about me

Favourite way to spend my day off? Hot yoga, picking up my reserved book from the Millennium Library, reading over coffee at Monday’s Cafe, wandering around on a long photowalk, and ending the night with a book or whatever TV series I’m currently bingeing. This is all assuming I’m not wrangling puppies at Puppy Sphere or photographing someone’s wedding, celebration, or milestone.

Go-to comfort food in Winnipeg? Eggs Benedict from Grassmere, chicken and waffles, or literally anything from Clementine. I am very easy to impress if there is hollandaise involved. I could also happily subsist on Aroma Bistro’s peanut wontons with red chili oil and Lala tofu for the rest of my life.

Favourite wedding venue: Ralph Connor House. It’s timeless, full of character, and so beautiful that we chose it for our own wedding.

Dream engagement photography concept: A nighttime shoot at The Ex or Wonder Shows, with photos that feel like stills from a ’90s rom-com. Think dreamy lights, a little chaos, and two people having the best night of their lives.
